RWC SIFE Places 4th at Nationals!
Roberts Wesleyan College’s SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) students were just named fourth overall in the SIFE USA National Championship, beating out 164 other finalist schools across the country. At the May 23 national competition in Kansas City, teams were judged on how well they taught others the principles of free enterprise through yearlong community outreach projects.
“We are thrilled that our team’s work has been honored and recognized,” said Dr. Erv Starr, associate professor at Roberts and the college’s SIFE Fellow, team advisor and coach. “More than 800 colleges and universities around the country participated in the SIFE program this year, to finish fourth overall is simply outstanding. We’re holding high hopes for next year’s competition and we’ll continue to raise the bar for the types of free enterprise programs we can create.”
“Our SIFE students have successfully applied what they’ve learned in the classroom to real life situations,” added Dr. Starr. “We’re very proud of our team’s accomplishments and excited that they were recognized by executives around the country. With so much out there about what is wrong with youth today, it’s inspiring to know that there are wonderful young people making a difference not only for their own futures but for the greater good of a larger community as well.”
SIFE is a nonprofit organization that gives students the tools to learn the free enterprise system in a real working situation. SIFE challenges students on more than 800 college campuses nationwide to take what they’re learning in the classroom and use that knowledge to better their communities.
